Born in Kentucky, William Hensley arrived in Texas as a surveyor in San Felipe de Austin. After the Texas Revolution ended, he and his family moved to Port Lavaca where he became a successful merchant.

After losing his inheritance for the woman he loved, Jan  moved his family to America and settled in Calhoun County. There, several generations farmed, ranched, taught and lived.

Born and raised in a farming family, Scooter became a rodeo champion before building his own agriculture business. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he left a legacy and love for ranch work to his descendants.

For almost a century, Maurine Jackson led with a servant's heart and words of encouragement. 

Surviving World War I as a boy in a European village, Joseph lost his mom and was reunited with his father as an immigrant to America. He went on to marry and have family before settling in Port Lavaca where he lived the remainder of his life.

Popular coach and school administrator, Melvin Selph is remembered for his calm demeanor and caring support.

As an innkeeper, Angelina provided hospitality to presidents and leaders in the Texas Revolution. She is remembered for her own role in protecting the young Republic.

Naomi was a well respected member of the community who contributed to generations of Calhoun County residents through serving as an educator, administrator and school board president.

Tom Mann was laid to rest in Port Lavaca, Texas far from the home of his Virginia roots. This special Independence Day episode tells the story of the great grandson of a United States Founding Father.
